Deploying Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud

Course overview and target audience

This course develops the skills and knowledge a junior-level systems administrator needs to deploy and manage Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud (UEC) in an enterprise setting. Instructor demonstration and hands-on activities lead students through the hardware, software and networking requirements and the installation, configuration and use of management tools. The course is designed for system administrators who have prior Ubuntu (UCP-level or greater) experience.

Course content

Based on the latest production Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud, this course helps participants to:

  • Understand the benefits and differences between virtualisation and cloud computing
  • Understand the architecture of Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud, along with its constraints
  • Install Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud in various physical configurations
  • Configure and optimise UEC to take advantage of the hardware configuration
  • Configure the user environment and perform maintenance on the cloud
  • Create machine images (AMIs) including configuring storage and networking
  • Troubleshoot and resolve common issues

     

Course pre-requisites

Attendees should have previous Ubuntu system administration experience to the Ubuntu Certified Professional (UCP) level or equivalent. Existing skills should include:

  • SSH
  • Bash scripting
  • Basic service configuration of Apache, MySQL, DNS, Samba, Postfix, etc
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking and configuration
  • Working knowledge of vi or Emacs
